Monsoons are ideal for the propagation of bacteria,virus and fungi causing infections.Fungal infections are more common in rainy days.These infections if not treated in time can lead to more serious skin conditions causing severe itching, rashes, swelling and redness. Rainy season are most welcome in all parts of the country, especially after the scorching heat of summer. But, along with the relief from heat, they also bring with them their share of health problems.Common cold,flu and fever are common in this season.some skin problems like fungal infections are also common visitors in the season.This is due to the humid weather conditions.
These are some types of fungal infections that occurs in rainy season.
Ringworm : Ringworm is the most common type of fungal infection in monsoons.It appears in the form of ring and affects neck,armpits and feet.Infections are generally very itchy.
Care : Do not scratch the infected area.Keep the area clean and dry.Apply anti-fungal cream or powder for relief.
Athlete’s Foot : Athlete’s Foot is caused when feet is exposed in dirty water for a long time. Discolored feet,itching and irritation are symptoms of the infection.
Care : Do not keep your feet wet for a long time.Wear cotton socks.Rub some lemon or vinegar on your feet.Consult your dermatologist for some anti-fungal cream or powder.
Nail Infection : Nails of both hands and feet are prone to fungal infections in rainy days.This is more common when nails are not cleaned properly and dirt accumulates under the nails, causing infections.
Care : Trim your nails and clean your toes regularly to avoid fungal infections.You can also use some anti-fungal powder for relief.
Eczema : Its a common infection.However there is some chronic conditions where the infection is severe with blisters and patches on the skin.Condition is worsened by the humid weather conditions.
Care :
Pure coconut oil is very effective and provides instant relief.Cotton clothes are best suited for the people with eczema.Suitable cream or moisturizer could be used after consulting a dermatologist.
Ringworm of Scalp ( Tinea Capitis ) : This infection occurs on the scalp and beard.Its itchy with white flakes of dead cells.
Care : Shampoo with salicylic acid is effective for exfoliating and scrubbing the dead cells of the infected area.
